Description of facility and application
Far West Recycling - Northeast Portland submitted an application to Metro for a solid waste facility license to receive and sort materials such as paper, plastic and metal for recycling markets. Far West Recycling - Northeast Portland has been in operation since 1993, and this type of facility was previously exempt from obtaining a Metro license. Due to recent changes to Metro Code (effective Jan. 1, 2019), Far West Recycling is now required to obtain a license from Metro.
Far West Recycling Northeast Portland is owned and operated by Far West Fibers, a waste management company headquartered in Portland, Oregon. The facility accepts source-separated recyclables, ferrous and non-ferrous metal, paper, glass and electronics from commercial haulers and residential customers.
According the the city of Portland, the proposed use is allowed.

Metro issued an ammended solid waste facility license to Far West Recycling Northeast Portland.
