Ben Stone, Director of Arts & Culture at Smart Growth America, helps communities integrate arts, culture and creative placemaking into neighborhood revitalization, equitable development and transportation planning efforts. We’ll discuss placemaking projects across the country, including local efforts in the Jade and Division-Midway districts, to highlight trends, opportunities and challenges of creative placemaking.
Portland’s Livable Streets Strategy encourages placemaking in the public right-of-way, opening streets, parking spaces, plazas and alleys for events, programming and infrastructure that reinforce the idea that public streets are public places to be enjoyed by all ages and abilities.
Metro's new Community Placemaking grant program will support community-driven projects that strengthen social fabric, foster connection to place, and involve and benefit historically marginalized communities. Grants will range from $5,000 to $25,000, and applications for the pilot round wil be open April 1 to May 26, 2017.
