Middle School and High School
Climate Change (2-day series)
Two presentations, delivered no more than one week apart, provide an investigation into the reality of climate change, from the basics of climate science to worldwide action and climate justice. The lesson invites students to think critically about the connection between resource consumption and climate disruption, and explores a wealth of individual and collective actions to combat climate change using a lens of hope, equity, community resilience, and increased quality of life.
The Secret Life of Our Stuff
In this one day presentation, students will learn about the life cycle of our things from the extraction of natural resources to end-of-life disposal. Students will play an interactive game to learn the ins and outs of how to recycle correctly in the Metro region and explore how reduction and reuse (even more than recycling) are an active way to reduce negative environmental and climate impacts associated with the production and disposal of our stuff.
Presentations include an activity and interactive discussion about actions students can take to reduce their impact on the environment and help create healthy communities.
Presentations meet state education standards for science and social studies, are delivered by trained classroom educators, and are offered free of charge for students and teachers.
