The Oregon Zoo is experiencing a renaissance. Thanks to voters, the zoo has embarked upon a $125 million project to upgrade our veterinary facilities, reduce our energy and water use, and expand and improve many of our animal habitats.
Yesterday, I had the opportunity to see first-hand the construction of the new Elephant Lands exhibit. The first phase of the new space, called the “encounter habitat,” is already complete. This area will be filled with objects that elephants can interact with, like tree trunks and sand dunes. You can watch a video of our family of elephants exploring this space for the first time:
I continue to be impressed by the work done so far and am excited to see the finished product. In the meantime, I hope you and your family will go see what’s new at the Oregon Zoo and take a look at great things that are on the horizon.
