The greater Portland area’s garbage and recycling system is an essential part of our efforts to reduce waste and protect our environment.
It also supports hundreds of jobs and has broad impacts throughout our region’s economy.
Metro is undertaking its first-ever economic impact analysis of the greater Portland area’s garbage and recycling system. The report will illustrate how money flows through that system, the jobs and economic impacts and that results, and who benefits from the public and private investments in the system.
This lunch-and-learn session will be led by Dr. Tom Potiowsky, director of the Northwest Economic Research Center at Portland State University and a former Oregon state economist, who will share highlights and observations from this analysis.
Anyone is welcome to attend this event in the Metro Council Chamber. It will also be broadcast live as a webinar for those wishing to participate online or by phone.
