The pace of the recruitment process varies, depending on the number of applicants, availability of reviewers and other factors. Applicants are usually notified at the end of each phase if they are not moving forward.

What happens after you apply?
Generally, the process runs like this:
Human Resources application review
After the position closes, a Metro recruiter reviews each application. Depending on the number of applicants, this may take up to two weeks. If your application meets the minimum qualifications it will be forwarded to the hiring manager for further consideration.
Department review
A panel of experts and stakeholders evaluates each application based on the experience, knowledge, skills and abilities required for the job. Department review can take two to three weeks. Candidates who best match the requirements of the position are invited to interview.
Interviews
Interviews are most often in person but can be conducted by phone or video conference. A panel of Metro employees and/or representatives from partner organizations asks questions to evaluate your experience and knowledge as it relates to the job. Candidates are typically evaluated on a numerical scale, and the highest-scoring candidates move forward in the selection process. Second interviews are common at Metro, and the selection process for managerial or more technical positions may include more than two interviews.
Additional evaluation steps
Depending on the position, Metro may ask you to demonstrate skills that are relevant to the job. Examples include presentations, writing or editing tasks, and skills assessments for software and customer service. Assessments are scored, with the highest-scoring candidates moving forward in the selection process.
Finalist selection and reference check
If you are selected as a finalist, the hiring manager may check your references before making a verbal offer of employment.
Criminal background check
Before beginning employment, you must pass a criminal background check. A criminal record does not automatically prevent you from being hired at Metro.
Additional pre-employment screening
Some Metro positions require additional screening, such as a physical capacity test, driver’s license verification or commercial vehicle driving check. These requirements are listed in the job announcement and must be completed successfully before a job offer is finalized.
Confirmation of job offer
Once all screening is successfully completed, the hiring manager will make a final verbal offer and work with you to set a start date. Once the date is set, they will send you a written confirmation letter detailing the terms of employment.
First-day paperwork
As required by law, you must complete a federal Form I-9 and present acceptable identification on or before your first day of employment. You will receive a list of acceptable identification by mail in advance. You'll get information about payroll and benefits on your first day.
