Learn more about Metro's role in supporting more sustainable development and maintenance practices.
As the Portland region's population grows, how we design, construct and maintain our buildings and landscaping has a great impact on the health of our region. While many professionals and property owners use environmentally-sensitive construction and maintenance practices, waste and toxins continue to affect people and wildlife. Loss of habitat still outpaces restoration efforts. Metro is one of many private and public partners with a role in reducing these negative impacts, but more needs to be done.
What are the barriers to greater adoption of sustainable building and landscaping practices? What are the greatest opportunities? What types of partnerships are most effective? How does Metro help affect the greatest change? How will we measure success? How can we meet the future?
These are some of the questions Metro staff have been asking partners and industry leaders around the region as Metro seeks to refine its role and leadership to drive greater use of sustainable building and landscaping practices in the region. Review the literature review and focus group and industry stakeholder interview summaries below.
