Middle school

Eco-footprint

grades 6 to 8
An ecological footprint measures how we use the Earth’s natural resources. We’ll talk about how the trash we create is connected to our natural resource use. Students will calculate their own footprint and devise everyday sensible ways to reduce its size.

Composting

grades 6 to 8
It's heating up in the compost bin. Discover how composting can reduce the amount of trash headed to the landfill, create better soil and reduce the need for lawn and garden chemicals. Students will get hands on with a sample from a vermicompost (worm) bin and identify common decomposers.

Conscious consumption

grades 6 to 8
In our buy-it-now culture, do you really want more, or do you just end up buying more? In this presentation, students explore how natural resources, consumer behavior and trash are connected and practice making thoughtful, conscious consumer choices. We'll discuss how teens influence consumer behavior and everyday ways we can reduce.

Climate Change

grades 6 to 8
A little confused about climate change? This presentation shows the scientific causes and effects of having too much carbon in the atmosphere. We’ll explore how the stuff we buy contributes to climate change and how we can reduce our share. Students will identify everyday changes that add up to real solutions.

High School

Sustainability

grades 9 to 12
What does it mean to be “sustainable” anyway? In this presentation, students participate in an activity that models how a common natural resource is extracted. We'll then discuss how natural resources are used around the globe, how we can become “sustainable" and ideas that make a difference.
