Metro’s six council districts are geographically compact, and their populations are within five percent of the average population of 248,362 people, according to the 2010 U.S. Census. The boundaries of the six districts were adopted by the Metro Council in May 2011 and modified in October 2011 when it adopted an expansion of the urban growth boundary. The current district boundaries went into effect in January 2013. These district boundaries will largely remain in effect for 10 years, though the Metro Council may modify these boundaries due to urban growth boundary expansions or other circumstances.
