The Blue Lake Regional Park renovation plan will be guided by insights and input from community members. In fact, the push to renovate the park came from the clear call by community members for Metro to ensure our most beloved parks were ready to welcome future generations.
Over the last several years, Metro has heard from community members about your priorities for parks and natural areas, including Blue Lake Regional Park. We’ve heard that:
- Parks are welcoming places when they are safe, well maintained and accessible to elders and children.
- Racial equity is important. People want authentic opportunities to influence Metro’s decisions about the parks they visit.
- People want places to hold community events and eat together throughout the year – even when it's cold and rainy.
- Metro should protect clean water for people, fish and wildlife.
- Access to water is a priority – people want to fish, paddle or play in our region’s lakes and streams, or just be near water.
- People want to feel connected to the land and rivers of our region.
- Easy-to-understand signs and information help people get to where they want to go and enjoy their time at parks.
Now Metro needs your help taking these priorities and applying them to Blue Lake Regional Park. Throughout 2023 and 2024, Metro is asking for community members to weigh in on plans and designs for the park.
The Blue Lake Regional Park renovation plan will focus on improving accessibility for all ages and abilities, better pathways and signs in the park, and upgrades for the most popular activities and well-loved areas in the park.
The renovation of Blue Lake Regional Park will take several years to complete. Metro's approach is to first move quickly with projects that improve infrastructure and operations.
While you and other community members share your ideas, work is being completed on nuts-and-bolts projects! Metro has replaced water lines, removed unsafe buildings and amenities, updated maintenance facilities, and renovated the fishing pier. These projects are setting the stage for community-guided improvements.
