Metro received 12 grant proposals for grant Cycle 8. In May 2020, COO Marissa Madrigal approved the award of $2,695,200 of grant funding to support twelve projects across the region. In July 2020, the Metro Council allocated $1.5 million in additional grants to respond to economic development needs and provide additional support for equity-related initiatives across the region.
Metro received 10 grant proposals from five local governments and one private entity for the 2019 grant cycle. On July 26, 2019 the Metro Council approved the award of $2,428,000 of grant funding to support seven projects across the region.
Metro received 11 grant proposals from nine local governments for the 2018 grant cycle. On July 26, 2018, the Metro Council approved the award of $1,995,000 of grant funding to support ten projects across the region.
Metro received 18 grant proposals from nine local governments for the 2017 grant cycle. On October 26, 2017 the Metro Council approved the award of $1,986,746 of grant funding to support nine projects across the region.
2016: Equitable housing grants
The Metro Council awarded $575,000 to seven projects to reduce barriers to equitable housing in communities across greater Portland. This was a special cycle made possible by higher-than-anticipated revenues from the construction excise tax.
The Metro Council awarded more than $4.7 million for 19 projects in communities around the Portland region.
The Metro Council awarded $4.5 million to fund concept planning for urban reserves and areas added to the growth boundary since 2009.
The Metro Council awarded $3.6 million to 17 projects with strong potential to create near-term development while leveraging other public and private resources.
The Metro Council awarded $6.3 million to projects in areas added to the urban growth boundary between 2002 and 2005. These grants allowed cities and counties to create concept plans for these areas so they could be developed to create jobs and housing while protecting farms and forests.
