Laundry soaps
Using concentrated, vegetable oil-based (not petroleum) laundry soaps without synthetic fragrances helps keep chemicals out of our waterways.
Add 1/2 cup washing soda to the wash cycle for cleaning heavily soiled clothes.
Fabric softener and deodorizer: Add 1 to 2 cups of vinegar to rinse cycle. (Caution: Never mix chlorine bleach with ammonia or with any acid, including vinegar. When combined, these compounds produce toxic chloramine gas.)
Fabric deodorizer and whitener: Add 1/2 cup of baking soda to rinse cycle.
Laundry starch: Combine 2 to 3 teaspoons cornstarch with 1 cup water in a spray bottle. Shake well. Use as you would commercial spray starches.
