In 2006, voters across greater Portland approved a $227 million bond measure for Metro natural areas. More than a dozen years later, spending from the bond measure is nearly finished. So where did the money go?

Community members are invited to help shape a potential parks and nature bond measure the Metro Council is considering placing on the November ballot. An online survey available April 15 to 30 allows community members to weigh in on their top priorities for potential investment.

Parks and Nature puts Equity Action Plan into action

Attendees representing environmental, community-based and culturally specific organizations gathered in the Metro Council Chambers for an all-day equity training.

With the help of the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion team and the Center for Diversity and the Environment, the Parks and Nature Department hosted an all-day equity training for more than 60 people from around the region on March 11.

The Metro Council has asked staff to develop a package of proposed investments with an initial framework focusing on racial equity and climate resiliency across six areas: protecting and restoring land, taking care of Metro parks, awarding community grants, supporting local projects, creating trails for walking and biking, and delivering on large-scale community visions.

Boardman Wetlands restoration provides many benefits to park-deficient neighborhood

With the help of a $362,012 Nature in Neighborhoods grant from Metro in 2015, Oak Lodge Water Services acquired the 5.8-acre site to restore habitat and wetland structure and function, improve water quality and provide visitor amenities.
