Creating a nature park at Willamette Cove

After decades of industrialization created hazardous conditions at Willamette Cove, there is hope that people can someday safely recreate at the area. Now, following nearly 25 years planning, Metro can begin envisioning a future nature park.

Life jackets save lives. That's why every summer, Metro has distributed hundreds of free ones at community events around the region – just part of its effort to promote water safety.

Blue Lake Regional Park reopens May 25

After an extensive closure to improve Blue Lake Regional Park's water and sewer systems, the park welcomes visitors back on Memorial Day weekend – and thanks to new park rule changes, they'll be able to launch nonmotorized boats. While most of the work will be largely invisible to guests, a renovated fishing pier is in the works and soon Metro will be asking for community input on park renovations.

Metro is inviting community members to offer input on the design a future memorial being built in the historic Chinese section of Lone Fir Cemetery, called "Block 14" on cemetery maps. Community input has already shaped preliminary plans for the project. Now an online survey about the memorial's updated design is open until May 15.

Metro's role in bringing two wildflowers back from threatened status

Two Pacific Northwest wildflowers did just that, thanks to years of collaboration by a wide range of organizations and individuals. Work continues on a memorial project at the site of the historic Chinese section of Lone Fir Cemetery. During the fall and winter, Metro staff engaged with community members on two preliminary design options for the project. Now a revised design is being created based on that feedback.
