Metro will continue to award Community Placemaking grants in 2019, supporting creative projects that empower people to make changes they want to see in their neighborhoods. The agency has set aside up to $160,000 to award in grants ranging from $5,000 to $25,000. No matching funds are required.
Project staff encourages people to start thinking about their proposals by looking at previously-funded projects, which include:
- A festival that honored the culture and contributions of people from the Pacific Island Kingdom of Tonga.
- Bilingual storm drain murals in Tigard and Hillsboro that highlight how different cultures value water.
- A community oven that doubles as a leadership program for young people.
- Artist residencies focused on healing.
Information about the new grant cycle is available, including the grant application handbook and fact sheet. Potential applicants are welcome to attend an optional information session in December or set up an individual time to talk with program staff.

Metro will begin accepting applications starting January 4, 2019 until February 4, 2019 at noon.
