2020-21 Programming
In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, Metro's education outreach team is not offering in-person programming. Connect with Jamie Repasky to inquire about virtual classroom options ([email protected]). The distance learning page houses our full library of online resources.
Composting with Worms
Grades K-3. Join Dr. Jamie as she learns how a home worm bin can "recycle" food scraps and turn it into super dirt! This program will introduce elementary students to the compost cycle, the elements of a habitat, and worm anatomy.
Resources and the Raven
Grades 1-3. Come learn the origins of commonly used items such as paper, plastic, and glass with Dr. Jamie and her friend, Re the raven. Together they will explore how the 3Rs help conserve natural resources and discuss eco-actions that youth can do to reduce waste in their home or school.
Beyond the Trash Can: Virtual Tour of Metro Central Transfer Station
Grades 3-5. You help your family member take the trash out to your dumpster or curb, but then what happens next? Join Nicole on a tour of the Metro Central Transfer Station to find out what happens to trash, food waste and recyclables when they leave your home.
"The pacing, differentiation and [classroom] management strategies were my favorite. This presentation was a success."
-Krista Pannell, fifth grade teacher, Gresham-Barlow School District
Waste Management and the Compost Cycle
Grades 4-7. Where does your garbage go after it leaves your home? Join Dr. Jamie to learn about the history and science of landfills, explore techniques to reduce the amount of food waste through easy eco-actions and find out how our amazing decomposers can help us recycle food scraps with home worm composting.
