The Office of the Metro Auditor was visited by outside auditors the week of November 3. The team reviewed the office's auditing procedures and several audits, and determined that the office fully complies with Generally Accepted Government Auditing Standards. The "peer review," as it is also known, is a requirement of the U.S. Government Accountability Office and applies to federal, state and local government audit offices. The review team found that the office met the requirements in the areas of auditor independence, professional competency, procedures, due care, fieldwork and audit reporting.
This peer review was coordinated though the Association of Local Government Auditors, who selected the auditing team for the assignment. Two government auditors from other jurisdictions were on site to review procedures, working papers and audit reports. The review team also talked with current Audit Office staff as part of the process. The period reviewed was December 2006 through October 2009.
A successful review of its quality control system allows the Metro Auditor’s Office to state in each audit report that work was conducted in accordance with generally accepted government auditing standards.
"I found the review helpful in my goal to continually improve upon procedures and practices," stated Metro Auditor Suzanne Flynn, and "I am pleased with the confirmation that we are meeting standards."
