I was honored this week to be sworn in and begin working as the Metro Councilor for District 5.
Metro has a critical role in protecting and improving our quality of life, maintaining our heritage of clean water and air, protecting farmland and open space, and ensuring urban growth is sustainably managed.
I ran for the Metro Council to protect our quality of life and provide economic opportunity for my children and future generations. Yet not everyone has equal access to the benefits of our region. Too many seniors, homeless, communities of color, low-income residents and others are struggling just to make ends meet.
We need a region that is livable, affordable, and provides opportunities for everyone to succeed in life.
Here are some of the strategies that will help support the needs of our most vulnerable residents:
- Increase jobs by improving the region's supply of industrial lands to grow, attract and retain globally competitive businesses
- Support minority-owned, women-owned, and emerging small businesses by leveraging the power of Metro's construction and operational contracts
- Advance strategies that encourage the preservation and development of affordable housing so that all our residents can build stable lives with a safe place to call home
- Ensure access to open space, natural areas, and trails for all our communities
I am proud to join a Metro Council that understands how we can build our economy and protect our quality of life.
