The Office of the Metro Auditor released today its annual report for FY2012-13. A total of five audits were completed during the year. Following up on a previous audit of payroll and benefits, progress was noted on needed improvements. Another audit, Tracking Transportation Project Outcomes, one of the most challenging to date, was the result of case studies that assessed the effectiveness of planning strategies in increasing light rail ridership.
Highlights for the year were:
- 93% of recommendations were implemented five years after audits were issued.
- Expenditure and staffing levels held steady.
- An external audit team conducted a peer review and found that the office fully complied with government auditing
standards. - The office won an award for audit excellence from the Association of Local Government Auditors. This was the eleventh award received since 2000.
“Overall, management has been cooperative and responsive to our audits,” said Metro Auditor Suzanne Flynn, “I look forward to another year of interesting and productive work.” She noted the office is on track to conduct six audits in the current fiscal year.
