From 2021 through 2031, the region's TSMO Strategy will bring greater Portland together to use promising technologies and improved coordination to advance a safer and more equitable, reliable, climate-friendly transportation system.

Communities across the greater Portland area are striving to provide everyone with safe, reliable, healthy and affordable ways to get where they need to go. One way to advance these goals is through major investments such as new transit lines and roads. Another way is to better manage and operate the existing roads and transit system through Transportation System Management and Operations strategies. These cost-effective strategies include things like smarter signal timing, coordinated traffic incident response and traveler information.

Much is changing in the way people get around with advances in technology, mobility services and coordinated improvements shared through partnership. Metro, Oregon Department of Transportation cities, counties, TriMet and many other regional partners are guided by a regional TSMO Vision: Collaborate to provide reliable, agile, and connected travel choices so that all users are free from harm, and to eliminate the disparities experienced by Black, Indigenous, people of color, and people with low incomes.
