The spirit of rejuvenation, rebirth and environmental conservation come to life in artworks on view at Nisus as part of artist Natalie Sept's show "Waste Not." Sept was given access to the Metro Central Transfer Station and spent many hours there in order to create a series of paintings that capture the seemingly uneventful daily drama of employees who work there receiving and separating the dizzying volume of discards that migrate through the busy transfer station.
Opening reception: Aug. 8, 6 to 9 p.m.
Exhibition: Aug. 8 through 31. Gallery hours are noon to 5 p.m., Friday through Sunday.

Opening simultaneously at Disjecta next door, with an opening reception at the same time, is the GLEAN exhibition. GLEAN features five emerging and mid-career artists – Sarah Bernstein, Francesca Berrini, Alyssa Kail, Michelle Liccardo, and Whitney Nye – displaying sculptures, collages and bas-relief works made from discarded objects taken from Metro's garbage station. The shows raise awareness about our trash habits and ideas about trash as a resource.
