Volunteer for the annual regional trail count! Each September, volunteers from throughout the region gather for five days along trails throughout the region to count and survey people biking and walking on the Intertwine – the greater Portland region's system of trails, parks and natural areas. This year, the 11th annual regional trail counts are happening Sept. 11, 12, 13, 15 and 16. The count is part of the National Bicycle and Pedestrian Documentation Project’s ongoing effort to gather accurate trail-use data to help decide where and when to build new trails and respond to the needs of trail users.
The counts rely on local partners and volunteers to count at sites spread throughout the region. Last year, 241 volunteers counted more than 45,000 trail users at 125 sites across the region. With your help, we can staff even more count sites this year and count more people!
Free. All ages, though counters under 16 require a parent/guardian.
