Help humanitarian causes in remote places by literally filling in the map!
As part of international celebrations of GIS Day, Metro is hosting a "mapathon" with Missing Maps, a volunteer-powered organization that seeks to help humanitarian organizations respond to crises around the world.
Many places suffering from natural disasters, disease and poverty around the world do not have complete maps of streets, communities or resources, making it difficult for humanitarian relief workers to reach the people who need help most.
Through Missing Maps, anyone can help by tracing satellite imagery to update maps that humanitarian organizations can use to save lives in faraway places.
No prior experience or technical expertise is needed. Just a laptop, a mouse and an eagerness to help.
