Oregon's solid waste hierarchy
Oregon law guides our region's policies for how we manage garbage and other related materials.
After reducing how much we buy, reusing what we have purchased, recycling what can be made into other products, and composting what can go back into our soil, we also have discarded materials – garbage – that need to be handled thoughtfully and responsibly.
Metro is committed to ongoing efforts to promote reducing, reusing, recycling and composting materials. The Solid Waste Roadmap provides opportunities to talk about our options for composting, recovering energy from what’s left over, and handling what remains.
