The hundreds of thousands of people who drive on high-use roads in greater Portland can see the impact of cleaner roadsides, thanks to one-time funding from the State of Oregon.
Rapid Response Bio Clean is contracted by ODOT to patrol and cleanup litter along area highways. Through the state funds Metro contracted with Rapid Response to provide up to six additional cleanup crews to patrol for litter and remove trash along selected ODOT properties. As of December 2022, they have collected over 50 tons of debris, covering over 850 miles at seven sites in greater Portland.
Service areas include sections of Interstate 5, Interstate 84, Interstate 405, U.S. Highway 30, Oregon Route 43, SE McLoughlin Blvd and Oregon Route 99W.
The work to clean up these roadsides is ongoing. Rapid Response crews will visit service areas at least once a week until June 2023.
