From Sept. 15 to Oct. 15, Metro held a 30-day public comment opportunity for the Regional Transportation Plan, framework for urban and rural reserves and urban growth report. Additionally, residents are invited to respond to Metro's chief operating officer's recommendations to make the most of what we have, protect the urban growth boundary and ensure there are enough jobs for current and future residents.

The decisions we make this year and next will influence the things we value in this region – connection to nature, protection of farm and forest land, family-wage jobs, safe and affordable ways to get around and thriving neighborhoods. Throughout this fall and into 2010, there will be several ways to get involved. You are invited to review the recommendation, reports and plans.

Whether you are a neighborhood leader, a business owner, an elected official or other resident who cares about the health and livability of their community, your continued involvement is an important part of creating the best future for the region.

featured viewpoint

Oregon must invest in a strong transportation system to maintain our economic competitiveness and quality of life. Without a strong transportation system that has the capacity to move people and goods quickly and efficiently, our economy will suffer.
