Learn about the transportation projects in the Portland metropolitan region that have been approved to receive American Recovery and Reinvestment Act funds.
The Metro Council has approved a project list for the $38 million available to fund city and county transportation projects in the Portland metropolitan region as part the federal economic stimulus package, the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA).
Because ARRA funding is geared toward immediate job creation, the project selection process had a short timeline. Projects eligible for this funding are required to be in the current Regional Transportation Plan. Some of the projects are already programmed to receive existing funds in the current Metropolitan Transportation Improvement Program (MTIP), but have been proposed to receive ARRA funds to expand the scope of the project or to shorten the time to implement the project.
Eligible projects were selected based on city and county priorities. The MTIP will be amended to include those projects. (See tentative schedule below).
Public comments were received through March 3, 2009. These comments were provided to the Joint Policy Advisory Committee on Transportation (JPACT) and Metro Council for their consideration. A memo explaining the public involvement process and all of the comments received is available for downloading below.
The South Metro Area Regional Transit (SMART) participated Metro's public comment process. Therefore, the posted project list also includes SMART projects. The Oregon Department of Transportation and TriMet conducted their own public comment process. Visit their websites to review their proposed projects.
