See data on the daily vehicle miles of travel (DVMT) by residents of the Portland metropolitan area, 1990-2008.
The most recent data available is for 2008. The Portland metropolitan area has two different sets of data, depending on how the geographic area is defined.
The first set is designated by the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) as the Portland-Vancouver, Oregon-Washington, 'Urbanized Area (UZA 27)'. This includes the Federal-Aid Urbanized Areas of Portland, Oregon and Vancouver, Washington. The 1990-2008 data are from the FHWA, and from the ODOT and WDOT Highway Performance Monitoring System (HPMS) programs in Salem, Oregon and Olympia, Washington, respectively. For 1990-2007, DVMT/person data can be located in the FHWA publication 'Highway Statistics'; Table HM-72, 'Urbanized Areas - Selected Characteristics,' Publication No. FHWA-PL-06-009. The 2008 data is from the ODOT and WDOT HPMS offices only, directly by e-mail (data is not yet published by the FHWA).
