Public involvement policy for transportation planning

Planning and conservation    Get involved    Public involvement policy

Read Metro's updated policies that guide public involvement in transportation planning processes. These policies set standards for Metro and affect the eligibility of local projects to receive federal transportation funding.

Metro's public involvement policies identify public involvement standards that must be met when Metro develops transportation projects and programs. Standards include outreach to communities underserved by transportation projects, public notices and opportunities for comment. The policies also include nondiscrimination standards that Metro, its subcontractors and all local governments must meet when developing or implementing projects that receive funding through Metro.

Metro updated its public involvement policies to reflect changes in the most recent federal transportation authorization act, the Safe, Accountable, Flexible, Efficient Transportation Equity Act – A Legacy for Users (SAFETEA-LU). A 45-day public comment period on these updated policies closed on July 6, 2009. The Metro Council approval the updated policies in October 2009.
