Read Metro's updated policies that guide public involvement in transportation planning processes. These policies set standards for Metro and affect the eligibility of local projects to receive federal transportation funding.
Metro's public involvement policies identify public involvement standards that must be met when Metro develops transportation projects and programs. Standards include outreach to communities underserved by transportation projects, public notices and opportunities for comment. The policies also include nondiscrimination standards that Metro, its subcontractors and all local governments must meet when developing or implementing projects that receive funding through Metro. To learn more about civil rights compliance, see Metro's Civil Rights web page.
Metro updated its public involvement policies for transportation planning to reflect changes in the most recent federal transportation authorization act, the Safe, Accountable, Flexible, Efficient Transportation Equity Act – A Legacy for Users (SAFETEA-LU). A 45-day public comment period on these updated policies was held in summer 2009 and the Metro Council approved the updated policy in October 2009.
