Metro works to improve air quality, reduce car traffic and create more opportunities for walking, biking, taking transit and carpooling.

Metro's Regional Travel Options program works closely with public agencies and businesses to promote and support travel options to help cut vehicle emissions, decrease congestion and create a healthier community.

The program is guided by a five-year strategic plan developed in partnership with program stakeholders. The plan is available to download below.

2010 program accomplishments

In 2010, the Regional Travel Options Program:

  • helped save 1,442,000 gallons of gas by promoting alternatives to driving alone
  • launched the new, eighth edition Bike There! map, and gave away more than 500 free paper Bike There! maps to local non-profits
  • achieved an annual conservative estimate of 18.9 million vehicle miles reduced throughout the region
  • helped one-quarter of the region’s workforce find information and incentives for commute options
  • awarded $533,000 in grants for projects to improve air quality and address community health issues
  • helped launch the new Gresham Civic Drive MAX station
  • received a $75,000 grant from Kaiser Permanente to create biking and walking maps of Hillsboro, Cornelius and Forest Grove
  • sold more than 7,500 Walk There! books and distributed more than 4,000 books for incentives.
  • won multiple awards for the Bike There! and Walk There! programs
  • eased congestion and increased mobility with the vanpool program and CarpoolMatchNW.com.
