MetroPaint, made entirely from post-consumer recycled interior and exterior latex paints, has been named a 2008 Top 10 Green Product by Sustainable Industries business magazine. The California-based publication, with offices in Portland and Seattle, announced its top picks today, featuring this year's winners in a digital 3-D product guide available at www.sustainableindustries.com/resources.

Selected products won nods for environmental performance, market impact, innovation, design, value and compatibility with the U.S. Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, or "LEED," rating system.

“It's a tremendous honor,” said David Bragdon, Metro Council President. "It's also a testament to MetroPaint's value as an environmentally friendly resource for homeowners who want to do the right thing and builders who want to earn LEED or Earth Advantage® qualification."

Metro, which produces MetroPaint, has recycled more than 1 million gallons of latex paint since 1992, helping save natural resources and landfill space. Through its household hazardous waste program, Metro collects paint from residents and processes eligible batches into a variety of colors for 1- and 5-gallon containers. With certifications from GreenSeal™ and the Master Painters Institute, MetroPaint has earned recognition as a quality 100-percent-recycled product.

Metro, the regional government that serves 1.4 million people who live in the 25 cities and three counties of the Portland metropolitan area, provides planning and other services that protect the nature and livability of our region.
