Many of Metro's sites are in remote locations and are not accessible by public transportation. Do you have reliable transportation to the site(s) at which you are applying?
Insurance Information for Volunteers
Metro provides workers’ compensation insurance and will defend employees and volunteers from torts (lawsuits)
for volunteers acting within the scope of their employment or volunteer duties. To ensure you are eligible for these
coverages and protections, you must “sign-in” and “sign-out” on an approved Metro timesheet
at the beginning and end of every shift.
The workers’ compensation and statutory protections described below only apply to individual Metro volunteers
working under Metro supervision. Members of other groups or entities who perform volunteer work for Metro should
contact their parent organization directly to determine what insurance, if any, is provided to their members.
In case you accidentally injure someone or damage property:
Subject to the limitations of Oregon Revised Statutes (ORS) 30.260-30.300, Metro is subject to action or suit for
the torts of its employees and agents, including volunteers, acting within the scope of their employment or duties.
ORS 30.285 requires Metro to defend, save harmless and indemnify any of its employees and agents, including
volunteers, against any tort claim or demand arising out of or occurring in the performance of duty.
Any incidents of property damage or injury to others must be reported to your staff lead ASAP no later than the
next business day. You will be asked to complete an accident/incident report form for immediate forwarding to
Metro’s Risk Management division.
In case of injury:
Metro insures volunteers under its workers’ compensation policy. If you are injured while performing your
duties, report the injury to your staff lead ASAP no later than the next business day. If you do not seek medical
treatment, please complete an accident report form. If you require medical assistance, seek it immediately and let
your medical provider know you are filing a workers’ compensation claim with Metro. Your staff lead or
Metro’s Risk Management office can provide you with a form to file a workers’ compensation claim. Metro
will try to make appropriate volunteer activities available to you after an injury.
Personal Property:
The property of volunteers is generally not covered, unless the Metro Regional Parks Director authorizes use of
the personal property in writing before the damage occurs. This includes personal vehicle damage and injuries to
other parties resulting from accidents in personal vehicles.
Photography and Videography:
Metro staff may photograph or take video of volunteers and use the images for volunteer appreciation and outreach
purposes. Images may appear in presentations, displays, printed materials and on the web. Images are the property
of Metro. By signing or initialing this form you acknowledge and agree to such use. If you do not wish to be
photographed or videotaped, or to have your image used for these purposes, please alert Metro staff.
I have read the insurance information and certify that the information I have provided in my application or resume
is given freely and is, to the best of my knowledge, true and complete. Volunteers 18 years of age and older will
be subject to a criminal background check.
