Habitat protection model ordinance

Metro has drafted a model ordinance to help cities and counties comply with habitat protection requirements. Conceptual diagrams illustrate how habitat conservation areas would be affected by the model ordinance.

Cities and counties can amend their local comprehensive plans and land-use regulations to comply with Metro’s Urban Growth Management Functional Plan three ways:

• adopt the model ordinance as written
• adjust the model ordinance to fit local needs
• develop their own unique approach to meet performance standards without using the model ordinance.

Metro has prepared conceptual diagrams that illustrate how habitat conservation areas would be affected by the model ordinance. These diagrams include a visual depiction of the ordinance applied to various habitat conservation areas. Note: the diagrams were originally designed as posters, and are on a large paper size.
